We recruit A level (or equivalent) entrants onto our 5 Year Training Scheme, which takes trainees from the AAT qualification through to the ACA qualification. We also recruit at graduate entry level onto our ACA Training Scheme. Entry criteria are 280 UCAS points/2.i. degree. We only accept online applications via the website.

The current stages of our graduate recruitment process are (1) we only retain those CV’s with a 2:1 or above, and 300 UCAS points (ii) from those CV’s we select a number of interviewees, roughly 20, for an initial interview with one of my partners, Michael Burton.  Before this interview they will be expected to provide proof of qualification and will also sit a 15 minute Maths and English logic and reasoning test. (iii) If successful at that stage of the interview they will be invited back for an interview day, consisting of a group exercise, a letter writing exercise, a maths test and a specific accountancy test.  They will also see a partner with the results of those tests, and will have another 45 min interview with another partner of Brebners.  All in all , the second interview day lasts about 5 ½ hours.

We require candidates to have the following minimum criteria for our Graduate programme:

A projected or actual 2:1, or equivalent, from a reputable university.
A minimum of 300 UCAS points, or equivalent, excluding General Studies.

A minimum of five GCSEs, or equivalent, including English Language and Maths, at grades A-C.

The main stages of the recruitment and selection process, takes place at Buzzacott’s office and lasts around half a day, are outlined below:

Stage 1
Assessment centre at Buzzacott’s office which includes a verbal and numerical exercise plus a case study.

Stage 2
Interview with the recruiting manager in the team, a member of the Human Resources team and a Partner. This stage also includes a tour of the office with an existing team member.

The stages of the recruitment process that Lubbock Fine operates are as follows:
Completion of online application form and CV.
Initial scrutiny by HR manager (Brigid Armstrong) and immediate elimination of those who do not reach the required standards.
Review of eligible applications by HR partner (Jeff Gitter).
Discussion between HR partner and HR manager to decide who is to be invited for initial testing.
Those who are invited spend a morning here completing verbal and numerical tests as well as a sort of case study (“in-tray exercise”).
Those who reach the required standard in those tests are then invited back to attend one of our graduate recruitment days in groups of six to eight people.  The graduate recruitment day programme consists of two separate interviews, office tour, the opportunity for informal conversations with first and second year students already working with us, PowerPoint presentation of the firm & our activities and finishing with a question and answer session.
Those concerned with the recruitment day (interviewers and first and second year students) have an immediate round table meeting to discuss the people who were seen that day and initial decisions are taken.

Initial assessment of graduates is undertaken by SWAT UK. The graduates that are put forward by SWAT are then asked to attend an assessment day at Shipleys LLP where they will be interviewed by at least one manager and one partner. The assessment days also comprise various aspects of role play focusing on business issues that they might be expected to encounter as a trainee at Shipleys.
